Kolkata Airport is also known as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, is one of the major airports in the country catering to international and local traffic. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport is located at DumDum near Kolkata. It is a civil airport and was originally known as Dum Dum Airport. Dum Dum Airport was later renamed in the honor of the Bengali Indian freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Kolkata Airport has separate terminals for International and Domestic flights. Kolkata Airport or Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport has three terminals, one domestic terminal, one international terminal and one cargo terminal. Kolkata Airport is the gateway to North Eastern States of India. The first aircraft landed in 1924. The plane was a Dakota-3-which was operational during World War II.
The Cargo Terminal was commissioned in 1975. It was the first Cargo Terminal in the country. The domestic terminal of Kolkata Airport was commissioned in January 1995 and Kolkata Airport was renamed Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport. Kolkata Airport is an IS/ISO 9001:2000 Certified Airport.
