As cold wave and dense fog take hold in northern India, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has introduced new guidelines for the management of passenger buses during periods of low visibility. UPSRTC officials emphasize that buses will not be allowed to operate when visibility is poor due to fog. The company advises operators to park buses in safe locations and wait until visibility improves before resuming operations.
To ensure safety, staff deployed at bus stops have the responsibility of monitoring the status of main routes. They are instructed to warn operators when necessary and prevent buses from operating until visibility conditions improve. These guidelines follow a series of accidents reported this week in various parts of the state due to fog and poor visibility.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an alert from December 28 to 30 regarding the expected impact of dense to very dense fog during night and morning hours over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
The IMD has released satellite images showing the expansion of the fog layer over the northern regions. The advisory emphasizes caution when driving and suggests the use of fog lights. Those planning to travel by plane or train are advised to keep in touch with airlines, railways and state transport for travel schedules.
