More than 90 passengers on board a special 'Bharat Gaurav' train from Chennai to Palitana suffered from food poisoning, railway officials said on Wednesday (November 29).
The incident took place during a religious meeting organized by a private group and the affected passengers were immediately treated by doctors at the Pune railway station in Maharashtra on Tuesday night.
The group had arranged the food privately and it was not supplied by the railways or the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), said Dr Shivraj Manaspure, director of public relations, Central Railway.
The food consumed was prepared in the train's pantry car. Passengers complained of symptoms like nausea, loose movements and headaches between Solapur and Pune.
“Around 80 to 90 coach passengers complained of food poisoning between Solapur and Pune. They complained of nausea, loose movements and headaches,” the official said.
“The train left after 50 minutes. The condition of all passengers was stable,” the official added.
On reaching the Pune station, a team of doctors provided necessary treatment to all the affected passengers on board. Despite the incident, the 'Bharat Gaurav' train resumed its journey after a delay of 50 minutes. Railway officials assured that the condition of all passengers was stable before the train resumed its route.
