iPhone sales continue to surge; iPad, Macbook shipments set to decline

Shipments of Macs, iPods, Airpods and smartwatches are expected to remain stagnant this year, reports The Economic Times (ET). However, iPhones continue to gain market share. While Apple Macbook shipments are likely to decline by 15 to 18 percent in calendar year 2023, iPad shipments are also expected to decline by 6 to 8 percent, according to ET, which cited data from a Counterpoint analyst.

Shipments of Airpods and Apple Watches are likely to decline by more than 50 percent this year, the analyst told the newspaper. iPhones, on the other hand, will finish the year with a 50 percent increase in shipments. This comes at a time when the overall smartphone industry has recorded a 2 percent drop in sales.

A total of 152 million smartphones were sold in calendar year 2022 and a 2 percent decline will translate into sales of 149 million units in 2023. Of the total sales, Apple accounted for about 6 percent of sales, with around 8.9 million units. the report said. Apple's revenue from iPhones

With iPhone sales rising and other products struggling to sell, iPhones' contribution to Apple's revenue in India is likely to grow from 85 per cent last year to 88-90 per cent this year, says director Counterpoint Research Fellow Tarun Pathak. Y. During the financial year 2022-23 (FY23), Apple India's revenue increased by 48 percent and reached Rs 49,321 crore. Net profit also increased by 76 per cent to Rs 2,229 crore. Despite having a market share of just five percent in terms of units, Apple had the second largest share in terms of revenue at 18 percent in 2022, second only to South Korea's Samsung.

Premium Apple Product Placement

Apple devices are priced higher and are the main reason behind the slowdown in sales of non-iPhone products, industry experts say. Apple iPads cost between Rs 32,000 and Rs 81,900, while Macbooks sell between Rs 99,900 and Rs 1,70,000. The average price of non-Apple branded devices sold on both products is much more competitive.
