The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MOPSW) is working on a groundbreaking project to improve India's port infrastructure. Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), a major major port on the west coast in Gujarat, will sign a concession agreement with DP World, a global logistics powerhouse headquartered in Dubai. The ceremony, graced by Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, along with H.E. Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, will take place on August 25, 2023 at Aloft Hotel Aerocity, New Delhi.

This important undertaking includes the development, operation and maintenance of an advanced mega container terminal in Tuna-Tekra, Gujarat. The project, valued at Rs 42.4364 billion, will be implemented through the public-private partnership (PPP) mode, reflecting the Indian government's commitment to supporting economic growth.

The state-of-the-art terminal is designed to handle more than 2.19 million container units (TEUs) annually, to meet the growing trade demand of North, West and Central India. The ability to house next-generation vessels with more than 18,000 TEU marks a crucial advance in port capabilities.

In line with Vision 2047, the Indian government's blueprint for port expansion and multimodal logistics infrastructure, the project will significantly improve operational efficiency. The 30-year PPP agreement, drafted in partnership with Hindustan Infralog Private Limited (a joint venture of DP World and National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), underscores sustainability through green port practices.

The impact of the terminal is poised to transcend congestion reduction and improved ship handling. It paves the way for streamlined supply chains, equipped with multimodal connectivity. As part of the National Infrastructure Pipeline, this project harmonizes with the Gati Shakti Master Plan and the Prime Minister's National Logistics Policy, collectively expanding India's global trade reach.
