Metro Railway's general manager, Shri P Uday Kumar Reddy, conducted an inspection along the north-south metro route, focusing on the upcoming Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Masterda Surya Sen metro station on August 16, 2023. The BESS integrates inverters and Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) batteries and provides a reliable backup solution for power outages and grid failures. The system also has the ability to move stalled trains to the nearest station in case of sudden power outages, ensuring the comfort and safety of passengers even during challenging conditions.
Starting its evaluation trip from the Jatin Das Park metro station after the operational hours, the GM continued to the Masterda Surya Sen station. In particular, he reviewed the newly implemented anti-door opening system within a Medha rake (MR-416). This advanced safety mechanism prevents premature door openings between stations and on the non-platform side. Shri Ashim Majumder, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, clarified the operation of the system to Shri Reddy during the inspection, along with other senior officials.
Shri Reddy expressed satisfaction with the system's performance and expressed optimism about its substantial contribution to passenger safety. The integration of innovative technologies such as the BESS and safety features such as the anti-door opening system illustrate the Metro Railway's commitment to improving both operational resilience and commuter well-being.
