MP urges NHAI to complete agreed work on Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway

Bengaluru :

At the district development coordination and oversight committee meeting, also known as the DISHA meeting in Mandya on July 15, Concerns were raised about the significant number of road accidents reported on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway. Sumalatha Ambarish, MP, urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to fulfil all promised obligations in relation to the motorway.

Sumalatha stressed that the NHAI, which had already begun collecting tolls from motorists using the highway, had a responsibility to complete all agreed work set out in the project's original agreement.

The NHAI had previously been informed that the quality of the central reservation needed to be improved, that additional street lighting needed to be installed and that signage should be placed in strategic locations along the highway for the convenience of motorists. Sumalatha also expressed his displeasure with the vent road and the highway's drainage system.

Kumar, Mandya's deputy commissioner, stated that after an inspection by officials, the NHAI had been informed to install signage related to lane speed and address other concerns. He also urged the NHAI to improve highway patrol efforts and focus on improving ambulance and crane services.

Kumar complained that although a total of 1,525 street lamps were needed for the highway, a significant portion of which ran through Mandya district, only 850 had been installed.

In addition, Mandya MLA P Ravikumar wondered why personnel skilled in Kannada were not stationed at the toll plazas.

NHAI officials present at the meeting assured that all ongoing work on the highway would be completed within two weeks. Regarding concerns about non-Kannadigas manning the toll plaza, NHAI officials promised to escalate the matter to senior officials.
