Increased cost for Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway travel from July 1

The newly constructed Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway will be more expensive to travel on from 8 a.m. on July 1. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to levy tolls from Mysuru to Nidaghatta in Maddur by opening a new toll plaza in Ganangur, Srirangapatna. The state's ruling Congress party has criticized the decision to collect tolls. According to a notification from NHAI on Wednesday, they will pick up Rs 155 from cars/SUVs/vans for a one-way trip between Mysuru and Nidaghatta. The toll for a return journey within 24 hours is Rs 235. For light commercial vehicles/LGVs/minibuses the toll for a single journey is Rs 235 and for a return journey within 24 hours it is Rs 375. Trucks/buses with two axles have to pay Rs 525 for a single journey and Rs 790 for a return journey within 24 hours. This new toll is in addition to the toll already in force on the Bengaluru-Nidaghatta section.

NHAI will issue a monthly pass with a price of Rs 330 for non-commercial vehicles travelling within a 20km radius of the toll plaza. NHAI has clarified that no toll will be charged during the trial exercise on the highway on June 30.

In response to the decision to collect the new toll on the highway, Mandya Congress MLA P Ravikumar expressed its disagreement, stating that it was unscientific. He pointed out that NHAI still needs to complete several works on the highway, such as the Hanakere underpass, the relocation of the access point at Amaravathi Hotel, the provision of an access point at Hosabudanoor, the extension of the canal at Chikka Mandya and the marking of the old Bengaluru-Mysuru road with white tape.

When asked to comment on the new toll, Mysuru's BJP MP Pratap Simha said he was unaware of the decision. He said he would gather more information from the relevant authorities before sharing his views with the media.
