In the Kondakal hamlet of Telangana, India's largest private railcar factory was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of the State, K Chandrasekhar Rao, and was built by a joint venture of Medha Servo Drives Pvt Ltd and Stadler Rail. The company makes electric and electronic railway products.
The prime minister claimed Telangana has expressed his delight that Mumbai Medha has given Servo Drives the green light to build monorails. In addition, he stated that the state was happy that Telangana would receive rail cars from a local company, Medha Servo Drives. Kashyap Reddy, the company's director, stated that the first phase of the plant, which required an expenditure of more than Rs 805 crore, was built on a site of about 100 hectares. Each year it can produce up to 500 carriages and 50 locomotives. The plant reportedly already employs more than 550 workers and another 1,000 will soon be hired.
K. T. Rama Rao, Telangana's Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, stated on his Twitter account that this facility will eventually employ 4,000 people after receiving an investment of nearly $1 billion.
According to a story by The Indian Express citing an internal document, the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala earlier this year blamed a production delay of Vande Bharat trains on the failure of its suppliers to supply essential components. In addition, the facility was said to suffer a setback in the overall production of all types of carriages, in addition to not meeting the production targets for Vande Bharat trains.
