Today Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for Gujarat's first railway locomotive production facility in Dahod.

The new production facility will be able to produce 1,200 9,000 hp locomotives with a speed potential of 120 kilometers per hour (km/h).

The new manufacturing facility will help create 3,500 direct jobs and 7,000 indirect jobs along with industrial growth in Gujarat. The new unit will also produce standard gauge locomotives for the international market and broad gauge locomotives for Indian Railways. The first locomotive is expected to leave the factory in the first quarter of 2024.
