The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has promoted a number of reforms and initiatives in the maritime industry under the Sagarmala programme to strengthen the country's socio-economic and regulatory environment. One of the ministry's main initiatives is to promote and develop a unique and innovative concept of floating scaffolding ecosystem that offers a number of advantages compared to traditional fixed scaffolding, such as environmentally friendly, longer shelf life and modular construction.
Under Sagarmala's authority, the ministry has approved in principle 4 additional projects, bringing the total to 11 floating jetty projects in Karnataka. These projects are mainly located on the Gurupura River and the Netravati River and will be used for tourism. The other locations are Thannir Bhavi Church, Bangra Kuluru, Kulur Bridge and Jappina Mogaru NH Bridge.
In addition, the ministry has approved in principle 4 floating scaffolding projects in Tamil Nadu. The projects in Agni Theertham and Villoondi Theertham are located in Rameshwaram, a famous spiritual place in India. In addition, the projects are located in Cuddalore and Kanyakumari and target tourists in these leading tourist destinations.
These projects will help provide safer, hassle-free transportation to tourists and will lead to the overall development and upliftment of the coastal community.
