Swastik-EquipLavaggi received a contract from Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) for the production and commissioning of 13 machines and plants at the poonamallee depot, which would maintain trains to run on Phase 2 corridor-4. (from lighthouse to Poonamallee bypass). The contract is worth Rs 310 million. By 2026, Phase 2, which should stretch 118.9 km, should be complete.
The design, production, delivery, installation, testing, commissioning of machinery and plant at Poonamaallee's depot, and turnkey staff training are all included in the scope of work of the contract, according to a release from CMRL. A notice to start work under the contract, with a start date of March 14, 2023, was given to the company by CMRL.
At Poonamallee's depot, all 13 machines and installations specified in this contract will be shipped to CMRL in July 2024 and tested there.
The equipment and installations include a battery-operated train shunting device, automated train washing system, wheel lathe, train lifting jack and synchronized mobile jack for hoisting trains.
The equipment and facilities, which will be put into operation at the depot before trains arrive, are crucial for rail line maintenance and subsequent train repair, CMRL said.
