The final explosion before daylighting was made in the left tunnel of the ongoing Parsik Hills project. The controlled beam approach was used.
The tunnel on the left side (LHS) of the Parsik Hills has been opened on both sides and is now fully tunneled.
The Airoli Katai Naka Project is divided into three different segments. After the tunnel work is over, the 3.4 km length between Thane Belapur Road and National Highway 4 would soon be reduced to 1.69 km (under Phase 1). Two tunnels, a road and a causeway are all part of the new section. The tunnels will have a total of 4+4 lanes, including 1+1 emergency lanes, per project specification.
The New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM), a controlled blasting technique, is used to build the tunnels. Currently, 67% of the tunnel construction has been completed, while the remaining 35% is still ongoing.
At the moment, travelers have to divert from Mahape or Thane. This project will reduce the distance between Kalyan-Dombivali and Navi Mumbai by 7 km. Commuters going to Kalyan, Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath and Badlapur will benefit greatly from the initiative.
