MoRTH plans elevated road corridor on Delhi-Gurugram expressway

To ease the heavy traffic on the Delhi-Gurugram highway, the Union Ministry of Transportation has plans to construct an elevated road corridor from Mahipalpur to Manesar as the upper deck of the highway.

The Union Transport Minister has directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the elevated stretch, taking into account future traffic forecasts.

The Delhi-Gurugram Expressway is a heavily traveled route, particularly by commuters to and from Indira Gandhi International Airport, and is also the main route for traffic to and from Gurugram and Delhi. Construction of an interchange at Mahipalpur to connect Dwarka Expressway to Delhi-Gurugram Expressway is currently underway. Upon completion of the intersection at Mahipalpur, any traffic towards Gurugram from Mahipalpur will be diverted to it. However, heavy traffic is still expected on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway up to Manesar.

Therefore, the Ministry of Transport has decided to proceed with the construction of the causeway taking into account the traffic load for the next 25 years, said Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.
