Of the 173 hectares required for the Baramati-Phaltan-Lonand railway project, 131 hectares have been purchased by the Pune district government. Due to local resistance, the acquisition of the last 40 hectares of land is in jeopardy.
A total of 63.65 kilometers of the new Baramati-Phaltan-Lonand single-track route is located in the Baramati Taluka. Land acquisition is currently underway between Baramati and Lonand.
The district administration purchased the 131 hectares of land in the past three months.
In a few days, 9.38 hectares of land will be purchased after approximately 121 hectares of land have currently been purchased. After that, the land acquisition of 40 hectares will continue.
In 12 Baramati taluka villages - Latte, Malwadi, Kurnewadi, Khamgalwadi, Barhanpur, Netpatwalan, Sonakswadi, Dhakale, Thoptewadi, Karhavagaj, Sawantwadi and Tandulwadi - private land was purchased for the railway project.
A committee led by the collector decided on the land prices. The project would also transfer MIDC land in Katphal in addition to the 12 communities.
The government has submitted a request to the Baramati Forest Department for the 7.5 hectares of land in the Baramati taluka.
