The Mumbai Trans Harbor Link (MTHL) road, a 22 km sea link between South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, will be equipped with an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) with an automated toll management system and state-of-the-art CCTV cameras.

The ITS will be installed for Rs 427 crore by an Austrian company in conjunction with an Indian agency, as proposed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) at its executive committee meeting on Tuesday.

According to the official, the ITS includes electrical work on the marine link, street lighting, construction of toll plazas, design and delivery of administrative buildings, as well as a Command Control Center (CCC) for monitoring the marine link with 133 cameras.

Meanwhile, the executive committee approved the hiring of a new contractor to complete work on Mumbai metro line 2B between DN Nagar and Mandale, which had come to a standstill.

The MMRDA removed the previous contractor because the work was progressing too slowly, an official said. The official said only 16% of the work has been completed.
