West Bengal to build road to boost religious tourism

Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced that the state government is constructing a road connecting the North Bengal region through the popular Joyrambati-Kamarpukur religious tourism destination in Hooghly district.

The road passes through Daspur, Mechogram and then through Natungram (a doll village in Burdwan) and parts of Birbhum district to connect to the North Bengal region. The project has a budget of Rs 30 billion, Banerjee reportedly stated in response to a question in the state assembly on tourism development.

In addition, the Chief Minister stated that Sabujdwip has been developed as an international standard tourist destination, a bright spot in Chandannagore, a building for the stationing of the famous rath in Mahesh in Serampore, and Furfura Sharif Dargah have all been developed.
