The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will pay cumulative Rs 4 billion for the land purchase and rehabilitation of 19 buildings for the proposed road expansion on both sides of the Elphinstone Road Rail viaduct.
The MMRDA's Sewri-Worli Link Project will also extend the existing road on both sides of the Elphinstone Viaduct by 40 to 50 metres. The majority of the 19 buildings that must be demolished as part of the road widening are located in the F-Zuid district and seven in the G-Zuid district.
Since the expansion of the road is part of the Mumbai development plan, MMRDA has therefore asked the BMC to bear the rehabilitation costs. MMRDA meanwhile has also demolished 850 slums in Kamgar Nagar for the road expansion works and smooth implementation of the Sewri-Worli link.
