Kerala MP Hibi Eden has demanded that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) build an elevated highway on the 16km Aroor-Edappally NH-66 bypass and an underpass at Edappally to relieve the bypass and NH-544. He raised the question at a meeting of NHAI officials and others who met in North Paravur this week to discuss the need to develop the NH-66 corridor through Ernakulam, which has regularly faced traffic congestion. It will worsen as the Edappally-Muthakkunam-Ramanattukara NH-66 corridor is developed as a six-lane stretch.
It stands in stark contrast to the much busier NH-544 bypass which is only four lanes wide in most places. This necessitates the construction of an elevated highway on the bypass and an underpass at Edappally. The NHAI also needs to build underpasses at busy intersections in the Edapally-Muthakunnam NH corridor, he said.
