Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has carried out several track renewal works over the past six months to improve passenger safety and comfort. An official release this week said 16.53 km of flat tracks were shielded deep by removing the impermeable layer of dust and ash from ballast in September, a cumulative advance of 103.06 km since April this year.
A sleeper renewal of 12.81 tonne-kilometre (TKM) was completed in September, a cumulative progress of 61.01 TKM over the past six months. The turnout renewals of 18.5 equivalent sets were made last month, a cumulative advance of 83 sets over the current fiscal year through September. Sixteen bridges were rehabilitated in September, making cumulative progress over that period with 96 bridges.
In addition, 1,546.24 km of tracks were tested by Ultra Sonic Flaw Detection (USFD) machines in September, making a cumulative progress of 10529.18 km over that period.
“The basic objective behind this rapid progress in rail renewal activities is to further improve rail safety,” said the NFR press release.
