The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, laid the foundation stone of four projects of Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla, Gujarat. These projects, worth more than Rs 2.80 billion, will improve port infrastructure and improve logistics performance. It also benefits the economic growth of the entire hinterland.
These projects will also improve the port's cargo handling capacity, along with ship turnaround times, and help speed up the evacuation of cargo.
The construction of new dome tail lifts within the cargo jetty area, with a project cost of Rs 695.10 million, will give them greater working height, resulting in greater cargo handling and greater suitability for unloading bulk cargo via hydraulic system by trucks/ fifth generation transport vehicles.
The upgrading of plots and stormwater drains in an area of 66 hectares within the freight jetty, at a project cost of Rs 800 million, will upgrade the plots/storage space with utilities such as concrete roads, stormwater drains and facilities for workers.
The upgrading of plots, roads and sewers in another 40 hectare area, with a project cost of Rs 470 million, will increase processing and storage capacity within the custom bound area and help boost the import/export of dry cargo with a capacity of 880,000 million tons.
Another project is the upgrade of Tuna Road from two-lane to four-lane, with a project cost of Rs 873.20 million.
