The Southern Railway's decision to renovate nine stations, including Egmore, will soon begin.

The nine stations under renovation are one in Puducherry, three in Kerala and five in Tamil Nadu. The stations picked in Tamil Nadu are Chennai Egmore, Katpadi Junction, Madurai Junction, Rameswaram and Kanniyakumari.

The reconstruction of these stations began with the fundamental work set up by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a press release, the Zuidelijke Spoorweg says: “The contract work for seven of the nine stations has been awarded. The completion of the contract award for Chennai Egmore and the opening of tender for Kanniyakumari station are due to take place shortly.”
