To give the state a much-needed facelift, the Maharashtra government is planning a major renovation of the state's infrastructure, including airports, ports, highways and railway networks. This project is expected to cost somewhere between 5-6 trillion. The War Room, which Devendra Fadnavis created when he first became Prime Minister in 2014, is back in action with bigger intentions.
One of the upcoming projects is to build a 6-8 lane highway network connecting the state's districts. Nine new expressways are under development, including the eight-lane Pune-Nashik Expressway. These nine highways could cost as much as Rs 2.35 billion.
A six-lane highway between Mumbai and the Konkan region, estimated to cost Rs 800 billion, is also being planned by The War Room. It runs from Pen in Panvel to Sawantwadi in Sindhudurg. According to those involved in the Mumbai-Konkan Expressway planning, the new expressways would be straight roads intersecting all coastal districts rather than the current long, winding routes connecting Mumbai and Konkan.
