India is building hydrogen-powered trains, which should be ready by 2023, according to Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw. Speaking at SOA University in Bhubaneswar, the minister stated that work on the Gati Shakti terminals initiative is progressing rapidly and that Indian Railways aims to connect the remote and disadvantaged areas of the country with the rail network.
According to the minister, the Vandebharat Express, a semi-high-speed train and one of the fastest trains, has been developed in India with proprietary technology and has been running smoothly for the past two years without major disruptions. He also stated that more Vandebharat Express trains are being produced at ICF and will be put into service soon.
