The construction of the Tori-Shivpur-Kathautia railway in Jharkhand is likely to add about 125 million tons (MT) of coal evacuation capacity and help reduce dry fuel transport by road, an official statement said on Wednesday.
The Tori-Shivpur-Kathautia coal evacuation railway project - planned by the Ministry of Coal under Prime Minister GatiShakti's national master plan - is expected to be completed by March 2023. The project will connect North Karanpura Coalfield in Jharkhand.
North Karanpura Coalfield, which is under the administrative control of the Coal India branch of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), has approximately 19 billion tons of fuel resources. Of the total estimated coal production of approximately 135 MT in FY25, approximately 85 MT is expected to be produced from North Karanpura Coalfield.
