Maharashtra's chief minister, Eknath Shinde, has said the plan for the extension of the Swargate-Katraj Metro route has been forwarded to the Center for financial and technical approval.
“The Pune Municipal Corporation and the state government have already approved the underground route as part of the extension of the PCMC-Swargate route,” Shinde told the state legislature this week.
The 5.4 km underground Swargate-Katraj Metro route plan includes three stations, although elected members have demanded an additional station either near Bharati Vidyapeeth or in Balajinagar as there is no station between Padmavati and Katraj.
The project is expected to be completed in April 2027, subject to approval from the Centre. Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MahaMetro) has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) of the corridor.
On March 6, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated two urban routes of MahaMetro - Vanaz-Garware College (4.91 km) and Pimpri-Phugewadi (7.03 km).
