Ports Minister inaugurates two STPs at Chennai Port

Chennai :

Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal launched major initiatives to increase infrastructure capacity in Chennai Port. A new Drive Through Container Scanner was inaugurated to increase economies of scale to boost business and trade.

Sonowal also laid the foundation stones for two sewage treatment plants in the port. The combined capacity of these two plants is set at 130 kilo liters per day (KLD), with one at 90 KLD & others with a capacity of 40 KLD. The water generated by these installations will be used within the port, reducing reliance on fresh water use. The minister also launched a computer upgrade program. According to this program, a total of 440 units of modern computer setups are to be set up.

Highlighting Prime Minister Gati Shakti's role as an advantage factor, Shri Sonowal said, "We can unlock a huge potential by deploying our resources and securing Advantage Gati Shakti. I am happy to share with you that Chennai Port is working to achieve this Many projects such as Bunker Berth at Bharathi Dock, development of Goods Shed facility in Jolarpet, new Elevated Road from Chennai Port to Maduravoyal, development of Multimodal Logistics Park in Mappedu, Chennai and many more are underway to utilize this advantage and unlocks great trade potential for the country.”
