The Ministry of Railways has launched a tender for the purchase of a set of 100 Vande Bharat trains with a maximum design speed of 200 km/h. The government has taken this decision with a view to future developments and wants to introduce more semi-high-speed trains in the coming years.

According to the tender document, these 100 trains will have an articulated bogie, aluminum body and sleeping cabins. According to the officials, the service life of each of these aluminum carriages is estimated to be about 35 years, therefore the maximum design speed has been increased from 160 km/h to 200 km/h to meet future needs as the railway lines will also be improved.
