Foundation stone laid for Rs 140 billion Ramayapatnam port in Nellore

Nellore :

The main port of Ramayapatnam is being built in Nellore district and the foundation stone was recently placed by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Chief Minister, Andhra Pradesh. Construction of the port would take place in two phases, costing a total of about Rs 140 billion. Since independence, the state has had only six ports: Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram, Kakinada-I, Kakinada-II, Krishnapatnam, and Rawa.

Currently, the state is reportedly building four more ports to boost economic activity, create jobs and promote general development: Ramayapatnam, Kakinada Gateway, Machilipatnam and Bhavanapadu. According to sources, the government is also building nine fishing ports, each of which will indirectly provide employment for thousands of people.
