In accordance with the Supreme Court rulings, the State Department of Transportation and Road Safety has now made it mandatory for each district to form a district road safety commission. The department has issued an order about this.
These committees will be headed by district collectors and will consist of the Police Commissioner, Chief Physician, Public Works Department Executive Engineer, NHAI Program Director, District Education Officer, Secondary District Transportation Officer, and others.
According to officials, the district used to have a district traffic management committee that did not place much emphasis on safe driving. According to the official order, the commission will evaluate the district's road safety measures, ensure that national road safety guidelines are followed, and keep the State Road Safety Board regularly informed about the types of accidents occurring in the district and the reasons for those accidents.
