The missing links of the Tambaram Eastern Bypass Road project will finally be built after a 10-year delay, according to a tender recently released by the Tamil Nadu Road Department. The estimated cost of the project is 48.7 crore.
Tambaram, the southern entry point to the city, often has traffic jams due to increased traffic on Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road and MBI Road. To prevent this from happening, the department began construction of a four- or six-lane bypass on the east side of Tambaram in 2011-12.
Branching off MSI Road at the Rajakilpakkam junction and continuing on Agaramthen Road as far as Perungalathur, the 8.8km project is designed to divert traffic from Madipakkam, Velachery, Thiruvanmiyur and Adyar away from Tambaram.
