Smriti Irani, the Union's Minister for Women and Child Development unveiled Sealdah metro station and started East-West Metro Service between Phoolbagan and Sealdah as part of India's East-West Metro Corridor in Kolkata.

35,000 daily commuters will benefit from both amenities, which will also reduce traffic at Sealdah Railway Station.

Metro first started operating on this corridor on February 14, 2020. On October 4, 2020, it was extended to Phoolbagan Station. Howrah and Sealdah, the two busiest train stations in Asia, are connected by a metro line.
