Work on the new six-lane tunnel at Khambatki Ghat on the Pune-Satara (NH-4) highway is well underway, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said in a series of tweets. This is a double tunnel with three lanes each.

Gadkari said the 'S' curve in the Satara-Pune direction will be completed soon, which would drastically reduce the crash rate. The total cost for the 6.43 km tunnel project is about Rs 9.26 billion and is expected to be completed in March 2023. Value over cost (VOC) savings.
