The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai has launched a vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) and solar PV hybrid (solar turbine) to explore the possibility of using wind energy at the airport.
This makes Mumbai the first city in India to set up a unique hybrid energy project at its airport.
The airport authority said this fully integrated, hybrid renewable energy product uses solar and wind energy combined to produce electricity. The energy produced by this technology can be adapted to a specific need. Thanks to its modular and scalable format, the technology is easy to install on any mobile or static roof.
The airport authority told the media that this technology is a critical step in implementing a solution at the airport that is clean, green, renewable, bird-friendly, environmentally friendly and a silent solution with a design life of 25 years.
The hybrid project will be launched in partnership with WindStream Energy Technologies India Pvt Ltd.
According to the reports, the plant requires minimal plant maintenance, unlike other power supply machines.
