Airports Authority of India (AAI) has taken on the work of constructing a new greenfield airport at Rajkot in Gujarat to accommodate the increasing flow of air traffic in this region.
With the project cost of Rs 1405 crores, the new airport is expected to be a transportation hub for people traveling abroad from Gujarat.
A new greenfield airport is planned, spread over 2,534 acres, with modern facilities and conveniences for travelers with an improved number of counters and other necessary facilities. The new airport is about 30 km from Rajkot city and on the Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway. With a total built area of 23,000 m², excluding the basement, the terminal building of this new airport will be able to handle 1800 passengers during peak hours.
