After several years of delay, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the highly anticipated Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) on June 20.
On Monday, the chief minister of Karnataka, Basavaraj Bommai, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Bengaluru Suburban Rail project worth Rs 15,000 crore on June 20. This is an important step in realizing the long-awaited dream of citizens.
The project aims to connect Bengaluru to the suburbs through a rail-based rapid transit system that has been a government dream since 1983. The project is expected to be completed in 2026 for Rs 15,767 crore, and is dubbed as "India's Most Integrated Rail Project".
The Rail Infrastructure Development Company, Karnataka, (K-RIDE) is a joint venture between the Government of Karnataka and the Ministry of Railways. K-RIDE is responsible for devising and executing the rail project.
The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) project was first proposed by a team of experts by the Southern Railway in 1983. It is estimated to be 58 km long. The proposal was submitted as part of Karnataka's first transportation survey, commissioned by Prime Minister R Gundu Rao.
According to BSRP's latest blueprint, the project will cover a 148.17 km rail network in the city, with 57 stations planned across four corridors and six directions from Bengaluru.
