Tata Projects, the infrastructure of the Tata group and the construction department to set up the new airport of the national capital in Jewar.
Tata surpassed the Shapoorji Pallonji Group and Larsen & Toubro for the same. The size of the deal has not been disclosed but could be worth more than Rs 6,000 crore.
Tata Projects will be responsible for the construction of the runway, terminal, landside facilities, roads, airside infrastructure, utilities and other support buildings at Noida International Airport.
The company has outperformed its rival bidders on the criteria based on quality and cost.
Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), Chief Executive Officer, Christoph Schnellmann, said that with the award of this EPC contract, their project is entering its next phase and is witnessing a rapid increase in the speed of construction activities on the site. With Tata Projects, they are working on a passenger terminal, runway and other infrastructure with a capacity of 12 million passengers per year, by 2024.
The new airport could be operational in 2024. The first phase of the airport is on track with the conclusion of the EPC contract. It will be ready within three years of the start of the concession period.
