The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is reported to be developing a highway connecting Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh to Solapur in Maharashtra. This 318 km highway will also connect to the Chennai-Solapur economic corridor under the central government's Bharatmala project.
The highway passes through the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana and Maharashtra. The project should be completed by 2025. It will also reduce the distance between Kurnool and Solapur by 100 km. In the old days, one had to travel via Nalgonda and Hyderabad to reach Solapur from Andhra district. On completion of this highway, motorists can drive through Mahbubnagar and Kosgi in Telangana and then through Raichur in Karnataka to reach Solapur.
The highway will greatly improve connectivity to the industrial areas of South India with the western parts of the country when bridged with the Chennai economic corridor.
The highway was listed among the 23 priority projects implemented by the NHAI across the country.
According to reports, the NHAI has now invited tenders for the preparation of the detailed project report for the initiative.
