Jogeshwari to get railway terminus by 2025

The Ministry of Railways has given permission to build a new terminus in Jogeshwari. This is in addition to Bandra Terminus, Dadar, Mumbai Central Terminus, Kurla LTT and CSMT. The terminus will be built at a cost of Rs 69 crore. The permissions came on May 12. It will accommodate 24-car trains on two sides, where trains will stop. Once finished in 2025 or so, this will be another rail station for those taking the long-distance trains.

This new Terminus will help passengers going to western and northern India. The Central Railway terminus accommodates trains to South India and the Central and Southwestern regions. The Mumbai Central and Bandra terminus points include northern and western India. The Jogeshwari Terminal will definitely make commuting easier for people living in the western suburbs, especially between Andheri and Virar.

There will be a station building for train staff and passengers with the necessary facilities. This terminus will handle 12 trains which will reduce the burden of Mumbai Central and Bandra Terminuses. Initially, the long-distance trains will run from Jogeshwari Terminal to Gujarat and later more convenient travel to Konkan and South India.

At the moment there is a covered island platform with rail next to it. It connects the main network towards Borivali. The platform is stacked with cement burlap sacks and the loading and unloading of cargo, especially cement, is done here. There is also an active warehouse that witnesses movements of trucks and workers. The proposed terminus is connected to Ram Mandir station by foot via a bridge.

Meanwhile, the Railway Board has also asked the WR authorities to explore the possibility of creating a depot at the Jogeshwari siding for the proposed Vande Bharat railcar depot. Mumbai Central is also on the proposed list to serve as a depot for Vande Bharat trains. Senior railway officials said Zonal Railways has been advised to investigate these sites in detail and make plans for the development and upgrade of the maintenance infrastructure of Vande Bharat trains.
