Saudia Aerospace Engineering Industries (SAEI) has announced its plan to build a multi-bay modification facility dedicated to widebody aircraft modifications, maintenance and conversion of passengers to cargo aircraft ("P2F").
In connection with this effort, Saudia has awarded Mammoth Freighters an order for seven Boeing 777 P2F conversions, plus an option to purchase five additional conversions. While initial conversions are expected to be performed at Mammoth's US facility, SAEI plans to convert additional Saudia Airline Boeing 777 300ER aircraft at the SAEI modification center.
"Built as a greenfield investment, the SAEI modification facility will give the country critical leverage to vertically integrate its capacity to create additional air freight capacity," the press release reads.
In line with Vision 2030's logistics hub and industrial development strategies, the modification center is an important lever to develop the industrial capacity to make progress in manufacturing, engineering and aircraft modification. In addition to aircraft conversion requirements, the P2F project requires advanced fabrication and installation of structural components. This production capacity will ensure a further increase in capacities and employment.
