The much-awaited Airport Metro Link is expected to be operational by March 2025. Recently, the 3 km Noapara-Dum Dum Cantonment section of the Yellow Line was cleared for commercial use by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS). Metro Railway has now revised its plans and extended the Yellow Line Phase-I by another 4 km from Dum Dum Cantonment to the airport.

This extension is aimed at providing seamless metro connectivity to commuters going to the airport. P Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager of Metro Railway, inspected the Dum Dum Cantonment-Airport section and said that progress has been made in laying the tracks.

Once operational, the Blue Line will provide access to the airport for residents from both the south and north. The Orange Line will cater to travellers along the EM Bypass, who can then easily transfer at Noapara to reach the airport.
