The Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) is set to improve the infrastructure around the Ganga Bridge, which connects Ramnagar township to the cis-Ganga areas. The project includes widening of the approach road and a proposal for strengthening and beautifying the fort road, with a dedicated vending zone.

VDA Vice Chairman Pulkit Garg stressed the need for improved infrastructure to manage heavy traffic on Fort Road, a major tourist destination and bustling market. A comprehensive study has been conducted to address these challenges by widening, strengthening and beautifying the Fort Road along with developing a vending zone.

Before the project was completed, the VDA engaged consultant Ernst & Young to prepare a proposal. The firm presented a detailed analysis of the existing conditions and proposed components for the project. The proposal includes plans for widening and beautifying the road from the Samneghat-Ramnagar bridge approach to the main junction at Ramnagar Fort.

Key features of the project include the installation of roadside barriers to improve traffic flow and minimise the risk of accidents. The proposed vending area on both sides of the fort road will include pathways and garden furniture to enhance the facilities for both visitors and residents.

Garg noted that the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Sadar) has been directed to verify revenue records and collect necessary information about the width of the road and ownership of properties adjoining the fort road, as additional space will be required for the project. At a recent meeting, the importance of accurate ownership information was stressed to avoid delays in construction.

The discussions also covered the beautification plans for the Ganga Bridge and the road leading to the fort. The proposed improvements are aimed at increasing greenery and developing modern infrastructure for the convenience of both tourists and locals. The vending zone is expected to play a major role in generating local employment, officials said.
