A meeting of the District Development Committee was held on Saturday under the chairmanship of District Collector Anu Kumari to review the progress of crucial development projects in Thiruvananthapuram. A major focus of the discussion was the urgent need to expedite the acquisition of land for the Balaramapuram-Vazhimukku road project, which is currently facing severe traffic congestion during peak hours.

Parassala MLA C.K. Hareendran and Kovalam MLA M. Vincent stressed the importance of completing the project early. They noted that while efforts to acquire the land had begun, they were proceeding slowly.

Besides the road project, Hareendran highlighted the tourist destination of Neyyar Dam, which the main irrigation department reports is 50% complete. He urged officials to expedite the completion of the maintenance work of the Kerala Water Authority and the activities of the Jal Jeevan Mission in the Parassala constituency. Other projects discussed were the Amboori grama panchayat tourism initiative, the construction of a Siddha hospital in the Puravimala and Thodumala tribal areas and the ongoing work on the Karamana-Vazhimukku-Kaliyikkavila road.

The meeting also discussed the construction of Balaramapuram sub-registrar office, Kakkamoola bridge and Pozhikara tourism project. Officials of the minor irrigation department reported that tenders for Vellayani Lake rejuvenation project are progressing. Besides, the NH public works division noted that drainage works on Vizhinjam-Poovar road are in progress and asphalting is expected to begin soon. The meeting was held at the collectorate conference hall and was attended by district planning officer V.S. Biju, MPs, MLAs and various district officials.
