Alstom (formerly Bombardier) will soon supply India's first semi-high-speed Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) train set to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). The NCRTC plans to begin testing the 17-kilometer stretch between Sahibabad and Duhai this year, with the section opening to commuters early next year.
The 180km/h design speed of the 82km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS will be the first of its kind in India for a regional transit system. The trains are said to run every 5-10 minutes and it takes 55 minutes to run between Delhi and Meerut, with 14 stops along the way. The corridor is planned to carry approximately 800,000 passengers per day.
