State-run Visakhapatnam port, which recently ranked 19th in the Container Port Performance Index 2023, handled the highest throughput of 85,81,927 metric tonne in May 2024.
“After setting a new record by handling 10 million metric tonnes (MMTs) of cargo in first 45 days of new financial year (FY 2025), Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has achieved yet another milestone in May with the collaborative working with all the trading partners marking a historic accomplishment in its 90-year history by recording the highest cargo handling volume of 85,81,927 metric tonne in May,” the authority said in a statement.
It further stated that this feat was achieved by handling 221 vessels surpassing the previous record of 76,22,732 metric tonnes from 201 vessels in March 2024.
“After achieving the highest-ever cargo of lit the over 50 MMTs, VPA has set a target for 90 MMTs in 2024-25. We can discharge 22,35,891 metric tonnes of coal The port handled 14,27,223 metric tonne from 13 crude tankers, surpassing March 2024’s record of 14,24,787 metric tonne, it said. In the fourth edition of Container Port Performance Index 2023, developed by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence, Visakhapatnam port, the only Indian port to make it to the list of top 20.Useful Links
