The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) plans to conduct a feasibility study for the introduction of a suitable type of Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) considering the conditions of the city of Trichy.

CMRL is a joint venture (JV) between the Government of Tamil Nadu and the center.

On March 21, 2022, the CMRL invited bids from eligible consultants to prepare the traffic data feasibility study report by April 2022.

Trichy, Tirunelveli and Salem were the cities selected by CMRL for the feasibility study.

With the proposed MRTS feasibility study, the development project area will be mapped along with public transport routes for a better understanding of the public transport system.
