Pudimadaka is about 30 km from Anakapalli Railway Station on Visakhapatnam-Rajamundry section and 60 km by road from Dolphins Nose Lighthouse, Visakhapatnam. There is no trace of any Beacon at the site or nearby prior to the present Lighthouse. A rock temple on the coast served as the day mark for many decades. The present Lighthouse was constructed during 1970-71. The D.A. Gas equipment with ASR-3 mantle and Gas motor for driving the optic assembly, supplied by M/s B.B.T., Paris was installed on the tower. The light was commissioned on 21st January 1971. Subsequently with the extension of Electric mains supply to the station, light source was replaced by an electric lamp on 31st March’91
